It couldn't be, every other thing works perfectly (I tried it just in case

$locale plays a role only in dates and mutt should guess $charset from
locales as it does in my case.
I 'll try to be more precise :
All my sent e-mail (those written in Greek) have Content-Type: [...] 
charset=iso-8859-7, they seem to have been written in utf-8, my editor
writes in iso-8859-7, the message is undisplayed when viewed or received
*but* when edited it's displayed correctly. It seems like mutt is doing
iconv from iso-8859-7 to utf-8 after closing my editor.
