Mbox on smb mount

Hi,

I'm running mutt on a Mac OS X 10.4 system. The file system which
contains my mbox folders is mounted via smb from a samba server
using mount_smbfs. Unfortunately, I can't get the mbox locking to
work in this setup.

Google reveals some indication that at least flock-locking should
work in such a setup (while fcntl-locking doesn't seem to be
implemented on the OS side). However, if I configure mutt with
--enable-flock and --disable-fntl I only get "lock count exceeded"
messages which seem to mean that mutt couldn't aquire a lock.

Does anybody has mutt running in a similar setup or has some idea
how to get this working?

Thanks,

Robin

P.S.: I've also tried using maildir folders but then mutt gives me
"filename too long" errors, probably due to a restriction of the
smbfs.
