If it is the right tool for the job then it is the right tool for the
job regardless.  I always use postfix for mail delivery.  And mutt is
definitely my mail weapon of choice.  I would not apologies for
running an MTA.  Until the recently move to thin clients all machines
ran mail transport agents.

If you have imap available then you might give that a try.  The
protocols are different and it is more designed to keep the mail on
the server.  But with the extra capability also comes the capability
to manipulate messages on the server.  Such as sorting by size and so
forth.
