I'm not sure if that's the answer, but one of ~v and ~$ should fit:
~v message is part of a collapsed thread.
~$ unreferenced messages (requires threaded view)
<assume thread_pattern patch applied>
~(PATTERN) messages in threads containing messages matching a certain
pattern, e.g. all threads containing messages from you: ~(~P)
