Thank you all for your help.

I found the problem. I use exim, but also fetchmail and fetchyahoo :-)
All those broken e-mails were coming from fetchyahoo. I downloaded the
latest version (2.8.0 instead of 2.6.1) and I get no more of those
broken From_ lines.

formail can't help reconstruct the broken e-mails.

        formail -ds <old_mailbox >>new_mailbox

would insert an empty line between the "^From " line and the date line
for the first e-mail and will prepend a "> " for the other broken 
"^From " lines.
