auto_view problems

I wasn't able to find the answer to this in the mutt manual, or the list
archives, but I may be looking in the wrong place.

I'm on a listserv that includes both considerate Windows users and
inconsiderate Windows users. The latter send me e-mail that is in
poorly-formed HTML. The former also send e-mail in poorly-formed HTML, but
include the raw text as a text/plain attachment. I've figured out how
to deal with the latter, but it messes up mutt's excellent default
behavior for dealing with the former.

With .mailcap and auto_view unconfigured, mutt shows me the text/plain
attachment as being the body of the e-mail, and the text/html as being an
attachment. Once I've properly configured .mailcap and auto_view to let me
read the purely HTML e-mails, mutt gives me the HTML on e-mails that
include both. This is problematic because, as I mentioned, the HTML is
poorly formed, making it difficult for html2text or 'lynx -dump' to deal
with properly.

Is there any way to get the best of both worlds?

Cheers,
Jason Whittle
