I use "mutt&nvi" for "everything," but not UTF8.  I use Japanese locale
(LC_CTYPE=ja_JP.eucJP and LANG=ja).  See "http://www.emaillab.org/mutt/";
and "http://www.itojun.org/itojun.j.html";.

BTW, I fear greatly that development on "nvi-m17n" has stopped.  Have you
actually installed and used "jvim"?  I succeeded after many, many hours of
frustration to get "jvim" to compile on NetBSD, but it never worked very
well.  (At least "nvi-m17n" only core dumps when you do something strange.)
I'd be interested (off list) in pointers to getting a *recent*, Japanized
version of Vim running.  TIA.
