PGP/MIME compatibility issues

Hi folks,

I'm having problems getting PGP/MIME to interoperate
with other mailers, even those that claim to be
PGP/MIME-compliant. I DID search the Web and scanned
the documentation and FAQs, but couldn't find anything,
so I'd be happy if anyone on this list could provide
an answer (or pointer, in case I missed it).

I am using a Debian Woody-based system, Mutt 1.4.0
and GnuPG 1.2.0, while the people I am trying to
communicate with use Eudora 4.3.2 with PGP 6.5.8
and Mozilla/EnigMail on Windows, who both claim to
be able to "speak PGP/MIME". Yet neither client is
able to handle such mails generated by Mutt/GnuPG,
while being perfectly comfortable with Mails
generated by either Windows client. The PGP Plugin
for Eudora complains about a detached signature
when you select the .ems attachment, while
Mozilla/EnigMail displays two attachments, and,
when you double-click the encrypted mail, asks for
your passphrase, but is unable to decrypt ("decryption
failed", broken key symbol).

I had been aware of the Eudora problem (used it for a
while myself) and had dismissed it as a non-conformance
issue of the PGP Plugin, but the Mozilla/EnigMail
behavior raises the question just which component is
at fault here. Right now, the score is 2-1 against
Mutt/GnuPG. =:-)

I'd be happy to provide configuration files if these
could be helpful in solving the problem.

TIA,
Matt
