folder modification times not updated?

Hey guys,

I've noticed recently that some of the Maildir folders listed in buffy
don't have the right date attached to them. Look at the list below:

 1 drwx------ 125 matt matt 4096 Feb 04 20:30 =/
 2 drwx------ 5 matt matt 4096 Feb 04 20:28 N =.IN_mutt-users//
 3 drwx------ 5 matt matt 4096 Feb 04 20:28 N =.IN_debian//
 4 drwx------ 5 matt matt 4096 Feb 04 20:28 N =.IN_openoffice//
 5 drwx------ 5 matt matt 4096 Feb 04 19:00 N =.bibliography//
 6 drwx------ 5 matt matt 4096 Feb 04 15:00 =.mycroft/
 7 drwx------ 5 matt matt 4096 Feb 04 09:00 N =.IN_spip//
 8 drwx------ 5 matt matt 4096 Feb 03 22:00 =.IN_family//
 9 drwx------ 5 matt matt 4096 Feb 03 18:00 =.globalization//
10 drwx------ 5 matt matt 4096 Feb 01 14:00 =.IN_Pessimism/
11 drwx------ 5 matt matt 4096 Jan 31 11:00 =.mir//
12 drwx------ 5 matt matt 4096 Jan 29 20:27 =.movies/
13 drwx------ 5 matt matt 4096 Jan 29 11:49 N =.xemacs/
14 drwx------ 5 matt matt 4096 Jan 20 04:37 =.foucault//
15 drwx------ 5 matt matt 4096 Jan 16 08:14 =.linuxhelp//
16 drwx------ 5 matt matt 4096 Dec 30 10:00 =.xfce//
17 drwx------ 5 matt matt 4096 Dec 29 16:35 =.immigration/
18 drwx------ 5 matt matt 4096 Dec 29 16:29 =.teaching//
19 drwx------ 5 matt matt 4096 Dec 29 16:16 =.moin//

notice, for instance, that =.xemacs has new messages in it, but 'date'
is listed as Jan 29, 5 days ago. =.moin is even worse -- the change
date there hasn't been updated since December 29!

Now this doesn't exactly seem to be mutt's fault; ls gives the same
faulty information:
[matt@anarres<501>/home/matt]$ ls -ld Maildir/.moin
drwx------ 5 matt matt 4.0K 2003-12-29 16:16 Maildir/.moin/
[matt@anarres<502>/home/matt]$ ls -ld Maildir/
drwx------ 125 matt matt 4.0K 2004-02-04 20:30 Maildir//

What I'd like to know is, why would the modification date be changed
in one casee and not the other? And what can I do to fix this?

Thanks as always,
matt
