In order to use elinks for your HTML viewing pleasure (TM), 
in your ~/.muttrc file, say

auto_view text/html
set mailcap_path=~/.mutt/mailcap:~/.mailcap:/usr/local/share/mailcap

or where you have your mailcap -- if you don't, just create (modify)
~/.mutt/mailcap entries (and the file if necessary):

text/html; elinks -dump %s; needsterminal; copiousoutput;
text/html; elinks -default-mime-type text/html %s; needsterminal;

You'd need to use elinks's own configs to adjust charsets, etc.
