internal pager and 8-bit characters

Hi,

Mutt's internal pager does not show me accents and stuff, I see things
like this:

Aix\362 ser\340 en el m\363n de la far\340ndula

instead of like this:

Això serà en el món de la faràndula

This happens if I'm on a virtual terminal or an Xterm or ssh'in from
somewhere else. The OS is FreeBSD-stable.

Are there any workarounds? What's the cause for it? I'm attaching the
output of mutt -v for reference.

tks
