I am not familiar with IMAP folders, but isn't that the usual behavior with for example
maildirs? After new mail is delivered into my directories, pressing 'c' defaults to the
next dir in alphabetical order: Ebay -> Listen/Mutt -> Listen/Procmail -> Spam
etc.
Might it be that you are directed to an email due to its arrival date other
than folder location?
Just a thought.
