Or make a trash directory and add this to your .muttrc:
# Dealing with trash
# http://marc.info/?l=mutt-users&m=120033080807087&w=2
# Keep a copy of all messages
folder-hook . 'macro index,pager d "<save-message>~/Mail/trash<enter>"'
# Except those in the trash
folder-hook ~/Mail/trash 'macro index,pager d <delete-message>'
set confirmappend=no
set confirmcreate=yes

You'll have to empty the trash from time to time: add this to .bashrc:
alias trash='rm -f ~/Mail/trash/cur/*'
(but replacing ~/Mail/trash/cur/ with your trash directory.
