Why not just do it in mutt, ie:

  macro   pager   <f6>    ":set wrapcolumn=85"\n
  macro   pager   <f7>    ":set wrapcolumn=-1"\n

f6 sets the line to wrap a 85 chars, use your own perference
f7 turns off wrapping
