You can also use lbdb (littlebrother database)
set query_command="lbdbq '%s'"

and in lbdbrc:
METHODS="m_passwd m_inmail m_gpg m_muttalias m_abook"

MUTT_DIRECTORY="$HOME/.mutt"
MUTTALIAS_FILE="aliases"

(or some more backends)
