This does work as advertised and is more along the
lines of what I was hoping for than Michael's previous
suggestion. Thanks to both of you for offering of your
expertise in any case. It strikes me now that Pine was
actually configured to have an extra double-check on
the role being used: it would ask which role you
wanted to use when composing or replying, as well as
asking you to confirm that you wanted to send using
that role once you finished writing your message and
tried to send. It's a bit more of an additional
hassle, but it did save my arse from time to time by
keeping me from sending from the wrong address. This
said, I think what could really do the trick under
mutt would be to have only the second Pine-like check
in place (asking if you want to send using a certain
role or "profile" as I think mutt calls these). Thus,
the following proposal.

Could I make up a from field to be inserted in every
e-mail I compose that would raise a flag for mutt such
that it would ask me if I wanted to send using that
address? Or perhaps it would simply refuse to send
since it would be an invalid address, thus giving a
sort of reminder. Or maybe I could just leave the from
field blank, and then expect the program to remind me
that no from address had been included? I think this
would serve the purpose of mimicing the configuration
settings I had enabled in Pine, and maybe the present
working solution provided by Rado wouldn't even be
needed then.

FIWBA.

Thanks, James
