It works, sure. But using my_hdr is more invasive then setting $from.
my_hdr will insert the header no matter what thus braking reverse_name
and a few other things.
Now you may argue that this is exactly what you want and i rest my
case. ;)
"In the old days" there was no other way to change the From: header
then to use my_hdr. This has changed for good.
There are lots of outdated hints and configs on the net that still use
my_hdr From: when changing $from would suffice though. Which are
extremly misleading for newbies.

You still even see something like (word order?)
my_hdr From: Joe Foo <foo@bar>
Without any hooks used.

My remark was meant to say:
There is only one application for my_hdr From: today - send-hooks.
Because they match when the message is already in creation and it's too
late for $from.

In this particular case the use of my_hdr presumably doesn't do any harm
though, if you know of the implications. It's just unnecessary.
