Well, it isn't really debatable that this is not what Reply-To is
for... Reply-To exists so that the sender can tell the people he is
corresponding with that the e-mail address which appears on his mail
may be wrong, and to supply them with the best address at which to
reach him. People use it this way now, but that isn't its purpose,
and IMNSHO it is a misuse of the feature.

The problem with using it this way is it makes it much harder for
people to reply personally to the sender, if that is what they want to
do. Some mailers have no option to ignore the reply-to header, and
some mailers don't even show you the reply-to header, so when you go
to reply to the mail you may not even notice that your message is not
going to be sent to the person you want it to be sent to. With some
mailers, if you do notice, you may have to quit the message to go back
and see what the right e-mail address is. That sucks.

Yeah yeah, you should check your headers before you send the mail, and
all that happy crap, but the fact is that's not human nature. People
come to expect things to work a particular way, and when it doesn't
work that way, it screws them up. Using reply-to in this manner goes
against the principle of least surprise, and has lead to many
embarassing moments, as I personally can attest to. =8^)

Just say no to reply-to. Don't use it, unless you have a genuine
need.
