I have noticed the same beahaviour with my Courier IMAP-Srv.
(Message-ID: <bv9e0p$1rrs$1@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx>). Now I am using
offlineimap and operate on my locale maildir-folder. But I think
<sync-mailbox> ($-key) has helped...
