Then perhaps someone should consult TFM.  

Come-on, why wonder about something that is *defined* in TFM.
Unless you have changed it's performance in .muttrc, which *you*
should know, it's action is explained in the manual. 

Mutt has one of the best manuals in *all* of linuxdom.  Lets at
least consult it.
