"~/Maildir/" is also a maildir folder, but it has an additional subdir
"sales" in your example. You should change that to
~/Maildir/inbox/{tmp,new,cur}/ (main inbox)
~/Maildir/sales/{tmp,new,cur}/ (sales stuff)
