Make sure you start mutt from within ~/Maildir/.

You can create macro's for often used keys that exec <sync-mailbox>
before they perform their "real" function.  It would require setting
$delete to "yes".  But, beware, you might lose more than you gain.  This
has come up before, check the archives for pros and cons.
