Thinking that it was a folder, I did try folder hooks a while back.
Here's a few that don't seem to have any effect:

   folder-hook 'postponed' 'set index_format="%4C %6.6(%b %d) %-26.26t %s"'

   folder-hook '.postponed' 'set index_format="%4C %6.6(%b %d) %-26.26t %s"'

   folder-hook '.*postponed' 'set index_format="%4C %6.6(%b %d) %-26.26t %s"'

(my postponed mail location is set: 'set postponed=+.postponed')

Also, if it really is a folder, then the default hook should always have
effect - but in the original example I showed that the format in the
'postponed' view is that of the previous folder hook, which is sometimes
the folder hook for my 'Sent/' folder.

I'm tending towards Javier's thought, that it's a separate view.
