 I disagree that this should be closed.  It should have been fixed ages
 ago.  It's a classic case of the robustness principle (from RFC 793):

    [...] be conservative in what you do, be liberal in what
    you accept from others.

 Unfortunately, a large percentage of the mail software in use on the
 Internet doesn't correctly follow the standard with regard to encoded
 words in MIME e-mail.  Mutt should be able to cope with this.
