This is broken for me too, so I started to look into it. I'm running
courier-imap-4.1.1.20060828-5 on Debian Lenny.
I find there are two issues, though I would think they're related. First
issue: zero counts in the mailboxes browser. Second issue: mutt doesn't
know what mailboxes have new mail, so pressing "c" followed by "space"
doesn't traverse the list of mailboxes needing attention.
I tested backwards through released versions to determine when these broke
for me. Here is what I found:
