Yes and yes.

imap_delim_chars setting in your .muttrc. It defaults to '/.', but I
personally use './' precisely so that the path separators are displayed as
'.'.
I never had to change this before and the paths were always separated by a
dot (since dovecot 1.0.x). What should idata->delim refer to BTW? The
delimiter advertised by the imap-server?
