I have a patch for that which got delayed since it IIRC makes changes in 
too many areas but doesn't solve any problem. It even adds new ones like 
some .po files not compiling anymore due to the newer gettext version 
being stricter on formats. (I.e. we'd even need to contact the authors 
for fixing though the .po files haven't been touched in years...)
