The security issue was already addressed. I think the EXAMPLE .rc
should use absolute paths.
It's the most secure way - and the user can and should adapt the EXAMPLE
file to his needs anyway.
So if the user decides that $PATH does the right thing for him that's
his choice and fine.
Why do we want intelligent terminals when there are so many stupid users?
