 Do you have a simple example of an mbox file?
 
 What is the output of "ulimit -a" on your machine? (Just in case...)
 
 Does your problem also occur with a C locale (LC_ALL=3DC LANG=3DC mutt)?
 
 Also, you could try to recompile Mutt with the --enable-debug configure
 option and run it with the -d option.
