Mutt doesn't display the infinity symbol in xterm

When I run Mutt from an xterm with the following locales,

LANG=POSIX
LC_CTYPE=en_US.UTF-8
LC_NUMERIC="POSIX"
LC_TIME=en_DK
LC_COLLATE="POSIX"
LC_MONETARY="POSIX"
LC_MESSAGES=fr_FR.ISO8859-1
LC_PAPER="POSIX"
LC_NAME="POSIX"
LC_ADDRESS="POSIX"
LC_TELEPHONE="POSIX"
LC_MEASUREMENT="POSIX"
LC_IDENTIFICATION="POSIX"
LC_ALL=

it doesn't display the infinity symbol (see the attached message).
Instead, I get a dashed rectangle.

There's no problem when I pipe the message to "less" or when I use
Mutt from gnome-terminal.
