indexcolor + color index = interesting highlighting

Hi,

Particulars:
   Solaris 8
Mutt 1.5.9 (configured with curses: --with-curses)
   Rxvt 2.7.10

I use "color index" along with the xlabel patch to highlight my index
based on the xlabel I've assigned to the particular email. I recently
applied the indexcolor patch, but there seems to be a clash when both
features try to highlight the same index row *and* I'm using any of the
bright colors. Details follow.

Since I can't find a terminal emulator for mutt that understands more
than sixteen colors, I've reassigned the bright colors of Rxvt (yes,
that was a lame plug for info on a more colorful terminal emulator from
which to run Mutt, sorry).

Anyway, if I use indexcolor to highlight the author field using a
non-bright color, it works fine unless I use a "color index" command to
change the highlighting of the index line to a bright color. In that
case, the index_author highlighting is changed to the bright variant as
well. That caught me by surprise.

On the other hand, if I highlight the author field using a bright
color, that color sticks no matter what the "color index" tries to do.

On a side note, it seems indexcolor takes precedence over "color index";
I'm not sure if that is expected or not.

Is what I'm seeing normal behavior based on the
applications/configurations I'm using? If so, is there a better formula
of applications/configurations I can use that would provide more
flexibility regarding color highlighting? Perhaps I should switch to
slang?

Thanks in advance.

Regards,
