It's been a while since I was truly up on the incompatibility issues of various flavors of Bourne-derivative shells, but IIRC -n isn't portable. I believe ':' is... Food for thought: How long has this code been in mutt's build environment? When has anyone ever complained about it being a problem? It's probably true that some old BSD systems handle touch poorly, but it's almost certainly true that those systems are hopelessly out of date, unsupported and unsupportable, and irreparably broken in any number of ways... I'm personally largely of the opinion that anyone who insists on using such a system gets what they deserve, and as such this issue isn't really worth "fixing". Software portability is an excellent goal, but ancient systems that almost no one uses and can't be fixed aren't worth trying to support. But that's my opinion. =8^) -- Derek D.
