The combination of the two can explain it - as noted above. PuTTY is superficially vt100-like, but its wrapping is not.All of the flavors of "xterm" assume a vt100-compatible terminal, of course. I use PuTTY.
Given "xterm-color", curses/ncurses/slang will conscientiously attempt to fill the background of the screen with the appropriate color. If the terminal wraps when the terminfo says it won't, you'll get blank lines. -- Thomas E. Dickey http://invisible-island.net ftp://invisible-island.net
