I'm used to see the pager and the "s" for signed messages. Anyway, from
time to time, I have signed mails where no "s" is shown by mutt. If I
open that message, GPG is called, and if I come back to the pager, the
"s" is shown until I reopen that mailbox again.
I should remark that the "s" I see is a lowercase one, not uppercase.
I'm using mutt 1.5.4i on Debian Woody (more details can be given if
needed). An example mailbox where this behaviour occurs can be found at
http://www.trikaliotis.net/mutt-problem.gz
This mbox type file contains two times the same message, coming from a
mailing list. I don't know why, but this message came two times, not in
an identical format, but very close. ;-) One of them (the one with
"[security]" in its subject) shows the behaviour I just described, the
other one does not.
This behaviour has been confirmed on mutt-users by others, too.
Furthermore, this behaviour occurred with 1.3.28i (from Debian Woody),
so it seems this behaviour has been there for quite some time.
I want to remark that this has nothing to do with inline signing, and
I now the meanings of uppercase-"S" and lowercase-"s".
Todd from mutt-users guessed that his has to do with the mime-type,
being multipart/signed with the correct working message, and being
multipart/mixed with the message not showing correct behaviour.
>From this, it might be arguable if not showing the lowercase-"s" in the
pager before opening a message is a bug or not, as I don't know if it
can be recognized that the mail is signed without looking at the body.
On the other hand, after having checked that the signature is correct,
mutt has to show a big "S", doesn't it? So, IMHO, at least this is a
bug.
