For IP:

Conversely, it is nearly impossible for a US citizen to get work in  
the IT field in the EU or the UK.  The EU requires a company to show,  
via the filing of much paperwork, that they were unable to fill a  
position in the EU, before they can even seek to hire someone who is  
not an EU citizen.

I've wanted to live and work in the UK or Europe for many years, but  
I have yet to find a company that will sponsor me, even though at  
times there has been a shortage of skilled IT workers there.

I believe that the situation is similar in Australia and New Zealand,  
while I hear these countries have shortages of skilled IT workers,  
getting permission to work there as a non-citizen is very hard.
