[IP] more on Apple's iPod code 'cracked'

I speak as a music fan, not as a technician, or with any technical knowledge
of the issue.

I can use iTunes on my Mac, my iPod, and could use iTunes on my Windows
boxen to play the copy protected tracks. There's no there, there, from my
perspective.

Where there *is* a "there" is when I switch from Windows to Linux and decide to play the tracks on my new Ubuntu boxen, or I wish to use a streaming app
like Streamsicle to stream my music across my home LAN.

THERE's where I'd like to be unleashed from Apple's restrictions* - I'd also
like to avoid the "speed bump" of converting from one lossy format to
another, so as to keep the fidelity as high as possible.

I see all the other hypothetical as just so much noise. Again - speaking as
a fan and from an admittedly narrow perspective.
