Dave - IP if you wish

The DRM hasn't, itself, been cracked. All this does is capture the AAC
frames before they're decompressed by iTunes, so iTunes must be
present, must play the file, and metadata etc must be entered into the
new file.

The DRM itself is as strong as ever; this exploits a weakness in the
player. Which only goes to show that DRM is a security problem right
along the usage chain, but we knew that already.

All this said, I wish this group wouldn't use "FairUse" in their
program names. It will make defending fair use rights harder if "fair
use" becomes a synonym for piracy.

P.S. On investigation, metadata conversion is automated - see

breaks Apple's FairPlay DRM, which secures iTunes-purchased tracks.

The solution, QTFairUse6, comes from the same activists who this week
unleashed FairUse4WM, which can strip copy protection from Windows
Media files.
