Richard and Dave,
A thought:

This is the onscreen graphic for MSNBC at the moment, and the
funniest thing
I've seen on television in a long time:
...
Truly, no detail is unimportant in the world of the 24-hour cable news
networks.
Funny is exactly what it should be. It is entertainment, not news.
It is not intended to be news, no matter how it is packaged or what
it claims
about itself.
Journalism is a real profession, with real standards. Entertainment
is not
prohibited but it is not the focus. So-called cable news channels
typically
work quite hard to entertain and do not care much about journalistic
standards.
So the only thing that might be interesting about the "breaking news"
example,
or any of the other, supposedly outrageously-bad services, is that
anyone would
take them seriously.
