Hiawatha Bray has (I think) gripped the wrong end of the
stick. For terrorists to be successful, they need to
inspire terror -- not necessarily accomplish destructive
acts.
If I consider how many billions of dollars, euros, pounds,
etc., have been expended in the name of security and the
lives disrupted, holidays spoiled, profits lost, etc., I
am forced to consider that terrorism is extremely effective.
FDR was right in his first Inaugural Address: "We have nothing
to fear but fear itself." Contemporary terrorists profit
from instilling that fear.
