Subject: SBC - AT&T NOT

Dave, I have a phone bill I pay every month on an apartment in what
was SNET country, then SBC country, and now AT&T country. I make out
the check to AT&T, but I have to make out two checks. Why?

Because the AT&T that sells me local and that used to do business as
SNET and then SBC is *not* of one piece with the AT&T that sells me
long distance. More interesting, if you have "AT&T" local service in
that part of the country, you cannot get an AT&T calling card. You
have to have AT&T long distance. And AT&T does not let you have
calling card service anywhere unless you have their long distance
service on a landline.

I'm sure they enjoy soaking up the costs of billing all their
customers 24 times a year instead of 12.
