peace." - Milan Kundera

Remarks of Commissioner Adelstein before 3G Americas
Entitled Broadband Wireless Internet – A Technology
Briefing., FCC, 10/21/2005
Our job at the Commission is to promote communications
and help you expand services to consumers. I think we
can all agree that the evolution of the mobile
wireless industry is one of the greatest technology
success stories this country has ever seen. And as you
know, it is not because of one wireless standard or
another.

Operators Move to Block VoIP, Video Rivals, IP
Democracy, 10/21/2005
The Wall Street Journal has a piece today on how phone
and cable companies are reining in customers’ Internet
usage, with the not-so-coincidental byproduct of
blocking IP-based competitive activities such as VoIP
and video file-sharing. The article, penned by Peter
Grant and Jesse Drucker, hones in on the central
conundrum of the Web 2.0 era: unfettered use of
bandwidth can chew up network resources but limiting
that use can block competition.

VoIP Blocking: Clearwire Continued, PPF, 10/21/2005
In an earlier post, I urged policymakers and not be
concerned with its decision to block third-party VoIP
applications. A former student, Joshua Marsh, who
actually knows something about the technical side of
these things (always something we lawyers sedulously
eschew), points out a technological arms race this
port blocking creates that maked port blocking futile:
