People seem to forget that we've already had an online video boom.
There were literally scores of companies involved in the space back
in 1999-2000 time frame, some producing content, some producing
content management tools, some offering caching services, and some
doing multicasts. I can't even remember most of their names, and
of course they're all gone now, taking with them however many
hundreds of millions of venture capital they managed to secure.
The one thing in common that current breed has with its
predecessors is that it's mostly the same top down thing. There's
little or no grassroots online video. It's just a bunch of
companies on the make hoping to find a bonanza.
