A bit alarmist, I'd say.  While I applaud SIPhone, I think in the main
they're just being sensible.

IM got away with walled gardens (as if that's an advantage) because it more
or less started that way.  People have been phoning the world for many
decades. The public will never gravitate toward a phone system where they
need different software to call different people (which, of course, is
subject to change as people change providers). The phone network may never be "open" in the largest sense--it hasn't been to date--but that doesn't
mean from the customers point of view it will be closed, either.

Besides, eBay didn't buy Skype in order to corner the telecom voice market.
Whitman is much smarter than that.
