I'm very skeptical of the "Radio jamming in New Orleans" report. It's
not
that I can't conceive of something this outrageous, but I would want
to see
much more evidence before accepting these claims. My father was in
Metairie
on Sep. 12 and said amateur repeaters were up and operating on normal
VHF
frequencies. This is both the wrong frequency and the wrong date to
disprove
the report, but he hasn't heard anything about any jamming, and he
did talk
to some amateurs who have been involved in emergency communication.
Also,
WWL TV was operating out of LSU Baton Rouge shortly after the
hurricane hit
and I watched a lot of WWL via the internet -- if anyone wanted to
jam WWL,
they certainly weren't containing the information. I asked my dad to
let me
know if he hears anything further related to jamming.
Most of the eye-witness reports were more positive than the news that
was
coming out of N.O., e.g. my parents are moving back into a minimally
damaged
house (in Metairie) tomorrow. I don't see what jamming could accomplish.
