To obtain a Clear Registered Traveler card, an applicant provides the
company with his or her name, address, birth date, Social Security

applicant's fingerprints and irises are made. The biographical and
digital information is then sent to the T.S.A., which checks it.

I should note that this information is NOT the same as was required by
the TSA to sign up for their free registered traveller program when I
signed up (and was approved) at DCA just over a year ago. The TSA did
NOT request (nor require) an SSN.

So, why is it that this private commercial enterprise DOES require
an SSN when the TSA itself did not?
