(Dave, for IP if you wish).
NBC censors Kanye West for saying 'George Bush doesn`t care about
black people' at hurricane relief concert.
LOS ANGELES, CA, United States (UPI) -- The Los Angeles Times Sunday
criticized NBC for censoring rapper Kanye West`s criticism of
President Bush during 'A Concert for Hurricane Relief.'
NBC cut the Grammy Award-winning rapper`s remark: 'George Bush doesn`t
care about black people,' from the West Coast tape of its Friday night
telethon leaving the viewers with nothing more than 'a sterile,
self-serving corporate broadcast,' the Times said.
The network issued a statement defending its action, saying: 'It would
be most unfortunate if the efforts of the artists who participated
tonight and the generosity of millions of Americans who are helping
those in need are overshadowed by one person`s opinion.'
West`s most scathing criticism -- a charge the government had given
the National Guard permission to 'to down and shoot us' -- was left in
the taped broadcast, the Times noted.
