Subject: Team Overbot seeks help

A bit off topic for IP, but we'd appreciate a posting.

Dave,

Team Overbot, a project of the Silicon Valley Overland Robotics
Association, needs volunteers to help with the final optimization,
tuning, and testing of the Team Overbot DARPA Grand Challenge vehicle.

The Grand Challenge is a race across the desert by autonomous vehicles for
a prize of $2,000,000. See http://www.darpa.mil/grandchallenge/ and
Google to learn about contest.

The Semifinalists were announced yesterday. Team Overbot and
39 other teams will be heading to the National Qualification Event at the California Speedway in Fontana, CA, September 27 to October 5, 2005 where
20 of the teams will be selected for the Grand Challenge event.

Our vehicle works, but there are still a lot of things we want to do
before the elimination races in late September and the final race for
$2,000,000 in early October. We know what needs to be done, but we don't
have the manpower. We need help.

Visit the website, http://www.overbot.com, for an overview of the Overbot
project and http://www.overbot.com/public/join.html for a precis of the
sort of help we seek.

Given the time pressures and the dangers of adding people in the middle of
a project, we prefer folks who have specific domain knowledge but
enthusiasm, a willingness to put in long hours, and a lust to have our
vehicle first over the finish line win is part of what's needed.

Most of the software for the vehicle is written in C++ so volunteers need to know the language; the operating system is Qnx so some experience there
would be a plus.

As most of what remains to be done is system refinement, system
integration, integration and optimization on the live vehicle, we need
people who can spend substantial time in our development laboratory, which is located in Redwood City, CA, a few miles north of Stanford University.

We have a few internships available for skilled college and
university students. The pay is poor and the hours are long, but it does
come with bragging rights, especially if Team Overbot prevails.

information.
