Thanks David, for bringing some humor into this thread!
Way back when, there was a practical difference between a .com
and .org (cot of registration being one) Network Solutions quickly
made them all equal. This is at least my own memory, not from a
privileged position, just as a web guy in the street as it were.
Today you will find the Victoria & Albert Museum here in London
registered as .ac, for academic: http://www.vam.ac.uk/ The Tate
is .org: http://www.tate.org.uk/
Sure, triple x's might make it easier to find pictures of 'nekked
people, but let's not start trying to pseudo-legally try to fit whole
sites into specific domain names.
And tell me that a site, like my own http://www.against-war.net
should now be a .polinc due to the current US Mccarthyism in the name
of patriotism and 'war on terror', that's worth a chuckle! :-)

ICANN is pleased to announce that the independent evaluation process,
which began last year, has resulted in a further sponsored Top Level
Domain (sTLD) application moving to the next stage.
...
The .POLINC top level domain will be a voluntary arena for sites
that wish
to express ideas that are politically incorrect or inflammatory.
Sites that
promote ideas including racism, homosexual advocacy, embryonic stem
cell
harvesting, creationism, evolutionism, opposition to the war in Iraq,
defence of the liberation of Iraq and other topics that are
inflammatory
can voluntarily register in the .POLINC domain to make it clear what
sort of material can be found on the site.
