Subject: Jon Callas' take on RFID passports
Dave,
Today's Pittsburgh Post-Gazette ran a great story by PGP CTO Jon Callas on
the RFID passport scheme:
http://www.post-gazette.com/pg/05114/493064.stm
The opinion piece, titled "What's the Frequency, Feds?", explains why what
works for products doesn't work well for people:
" While warehouses need to have ever-increasing efficiencies, the reason to
have a border is not efficiency. I have no love for standing at immigration
control, but I accept that there is a reason for that second word, control."
Callas' best riff on the RFID scheme:
" I don't need a beacon that is an advertisement for my potential
victimhood, "Look, over here, an American! Need cash? Credit cards? Want to
make a splashy political statement for the news? Act now!""
Share and enjoy,
Bill
