People rely upon cities for drinking water in spite
of the availability of bottled water and nobody has
challenged that line of business for cities.

How is offering bits at commodity prices any different
from offering drips at commodity prices??

most interestingly, the last mile of water pipe and the
last mile of RBOC copper wire were both paid for with
public money - the force of law required buying the
service in both cases. in one case, the infrastructure
has stayed a public asset, in the other, the public
asset has been converted for private gain.

interesting how that just slides by in the discussion, no??
